Pass Your ISACA CDPSE Exam on the First Try

The Certified Data Privacy Solutions Engineer (CDPSE) is ISACA’s technical privacy certification, launched in May 2020 and held by more than 16,000 professionals worldwide. It validates your ability to assess, build, and implement privacy solutions, embedding privacy by design into systems, networks, and applications rather than treating privacy as a purely legal exercise.

The CDPSE exam costs $575 for ISACA members and $760 for non-members, plus a $50 application fee once you pass and apply for certification. Our boot camp includes the exam voucher in the program fee, so there is no separate exam purchase.

The CDPSE exam is 120 multiple-choice questions delivered over 3.5 hours at a PSI testing center or through remote proctoring. Scores are reported on a 200 to 800 scale, and you need a scaled score of 450 to pass.

The current CDPSE exam covers four domains: Privacy Governance at 20 percent, Privacy Risk Management and Compliance at 18 percent, Data Life Cycle Management at 23 percent, and Privacy Engineering at 39 percent. Privacy Engineering carries by far the heaviest weight, which is why our curriculum spends the most time there.

Yes. ISACA restructured the CDPSE job practice from the original three domains (Privacy Governance, Privacy Architecture, Data Lifecycle) into the current four-domain outline. Much of the study content online still describes the retired three-domain version, so verify any prep material against the current ISACA exam content outline. Our boot camp uses official ISACA courseware built on the current outline.

ISACA requires three or more years of experience performing the work covered by the CDPSE domains, verified through an application after you pass the exam. There is no prerequisite to sit the exam itself, and you have five years from your passing date to submit the experience application.

Yes. You can register and pass the CDPSE exam at any time, then earn the required three years of experience afterward. ISACA gives you five years from the date you pass to apply for certification, so the exam never has to wait on your resume.

The CDPSE is a scenario-heavy exam that tests whether you can apply privacy concepts to real systems, not recall definitions. Candidates who only studied governance frameworks tend to struggle with the technical implementation questions, which is where the 39 percent Privacy Engineering domain does its damage. Privacy engineer pay in the US commonly runs from about $125,000 to $160,000, demand keeps growing as GDPR enforcement matures and US state privacy laws multiply, and the all-in certification cost lands under $1,000 before training.

CDPSE from ISACA is an experience-verified credential for engineers who implement privacy in systems, weighted heavily toward privacy engineering. CIPT from the IAPP teaches privacy professionals how technology supports privacy concepts. Choose CDPSE if you build the controls, CIPT if you translate privacy into technical requirements. Many professionals eventually hold both.

CDPSE holders earn a minimum of 20 continuing professional education (CPE) hours each year and 120 CPE hours per three-year cycle, pay an annual maintenance fee to ISACA, and follow the ISACA Code of Professional Ethics. If you hold other ISACA certifications like CISM or CISA, the same CPE activity can count toward all of them.
