A plain guide to ITIL 4 Specialist: Drive Stakeholder Value (DSV), the PeopleCert module on customer journeys and stakeholder relationships, as of October 2026. It covers the 40-question exam, the prerequisites, the seven-step customer journey, where DSV sits in ITIL 4 Managing Professional, and what the planned December 31, 2027 sunset of ITIL 4 means for you.
ITIL 4 Specialist: Drive Stakeholder Value (DSV) is the PeopleCert certification for how a service provider works with the people it serves, and one of the four modules behind the ITIL 4 Managing Professional designation.
The module is built around the customer journey, seven steps that run from exploring a market to realizing value once a service is live. Along the way it teaches eight ITIL practices in context, among them relationship management, service level management, business analysis and service request management, along with customer and user experience and journey mapping.
DSV is issued by PeopleCert and is still on sale in October 2026, more than eight months after ITIL Foundation (Version 5) was released. PeopleCert’s current plan is to sunset all ITIL 4 modules on December 31, 2027. To sit the exam you need ITIL 4 Foundation and accredited training.
Understand the market, the consumers in it and what they need.
Build relationships with customers, suppliers and partners.
Shape demand and turn requirements into service offerings.
Align expectations and agree service levels with the customer.
Bring users on board, or take them off cleanly when they leave.
Provide and consume the service, request by request.
Capture the value delivered and improve from there.
Four things to weigh about Drive Stakeholder Value now that ITIL (Version 5) is on sale beside it.
PeopleCert still lists DSV in its ITIL catalog in October 2026, next to the Version 5 modules released since ITIL Foundation (Version 5) arrived in February 2026. The catch is the calendar. PeopleCert’s current plan is to sunset every ITIL 4 module on December 31, 2027, and it hasn’t yet said how long ITIL 4 exam vouchers will stay valid.
Of the four ITIL 4 Managing Professional modules, DSV is the one about the other side of the service. It covers how a provider finds and understands its customers, agrees what it will deliver, brings users on board and proves the value afterward.
DSV teaches relationship management, supplier management, business analysis, service level management, service catalogue management, service desk, service request management and portfolio management at the point in the customer journey where each one is used. Our primer on what every IT professional should know about ITIL 4 sets out the wider framework.
DSV is not a DoD 8140 credential. PeopleCert makes no 8140 claim for it, and ITIL is a service management framework rather than a cybersecurity one, so don’t count on it to meet a cyber-coded position requirement. If your role is coded, check the current matrix at the DoD Cyber Exchange.
Its weight comes from the ITIL scheme itself. DSV counts toward ITIL 4 Managing Professional, and holding that designation is what opens PeopleCert’s fast-track route to the Version 5 designation, the Managing Professional Transition (Version 5) module.
The certification, the exam and how to keep it current, as of October 2026.
DSV is one module of four. What you do next depends on how far along the ITIL 4 Managing Professional path you are, and how you plan to move to Version 5.
Add Create, Deliver and Support, High-velocity IT, and Direct, Plan and Improve to earn the designation. Each needs only Foundation and accredited training, so the order is up to you, but all four have to be done before the planned December 31, 2027 sunset.
Open only to ITIL 4 Managing Professionals, ITIL 4 Masters and ITIL v3 Experts and Masters. A course and two open-book exams (one of 40 questions in 90 minutes and one of 60 questions in 120 minutes, 70% to pass each) upgrade you to ITIL Managing Professional (Version 5). PeopleCert currently has no plans to sunset this route.
PeopleCert accepts any ITIL 4 certificate as a prerequisite for the higher Version 5 modules. With DSV in hand you can go straight to ITIL Experience (Version 5), the closest Version 5 module by topic, without retaking Foundation.
DSV sits in the middle of the ITIL 4 path. Foundation comes first, the four Managing Professional modules come next, and the designation opens the upgrade route to Version 5.
The prerequisite
Four modules, any order
Earn it, then upgrade
Two questions to answer before you commit: can you sit it, and should you take DSV now that Version 5 is here. Here’s a straight answer to both.
Two requirements before PeopleCert releases your result.
You need ITIL 4 Foundation (or any ITIL v3 certificate, or the ITIL 4 Managing Professional certificate) and training through an Accredited Training Organization or ITIL Official eLearning. Self-study alone won’t get you certified here, because PeopleCert holds back exam results until it sees proof the training was completed.
ITIL 4 modules are planned to sunset December 31, 2027.
If DSV is part of a plan to earn ITIL 4 Managing Professional, count the modules you still need against the months left, and remember that voucher validity dates haven’t been announced. One more detail is easy to miss. PeopleCert’s DSV page lists ITIL 4 Foundation, not ITIL Foundation (Version 5), as the Foundation it accepts.
DSV fits the people who stand between a service and its customers, the ones who agree what gets delivered, bring users on board and report on whether it worked.
Owns the provider side of a customer relationship. DSV’s Engage step and the relationship management practice cover how trust is built, kept and repaired over time, which is most of what this job is.
Negotiates and reports on the targets a service is held to. The Agree step works through planning for value co-creation, negotiating service levels and the service level management practice.
Manages the vendors and partners a service depends on. DSV treats suppliers as stakeholders in the same journey, and applies the supplier management practice in the Engage step.
Turns demand into requirements a team can build to. The Offer step covers managing demand, specifying customer requirements, designing digital services and the business analysis practice.
Runs services against what was agreed with the business. PeopleCert names IT service manager among the roles DSV is popular with, and the Realize step covers tracking and reporting service value.
Keeps customers getting value after the sale. Onboarding, offboarding, user feedback and value reviews map to DSV’s Onboard, Co-create and Realize steps.
DSV shares its exam format with the other ITIL 4 Managing Professional modules, and its closest Version 5 match by topic is ITIL Experience. Here’s how the three line up.

PeopleCert makes no DoD 8140 claim for any of the three. DSV and Create, Deliver and Support follow the planned December 31, 2027 sunset for all ITIL 4 modules, while ITIL Experience (Version 5) has no announced end date.

The questions candidates ask most often about ITIL 4 Specialist: Drive Stakeholder Value in 2026.
ITIL 4 Specialist: Drive Stakeholder Value (DSV) is a PeopleCert certification that covers how a service provider works with its customers, users, suppliers and partners. It follows a seven-step customer journey, from exploring a market through agreeing service levels, onboarding users and realizing value. DSV is one of the four modules that make up the ITIL 4 Managing Professional designation.
Yes. PeopleCert released ITIL Foundation (Version 5) in February 2026, and as of October 2026 it still sells ITIL 4 Specialist: Drive Stakeholder Value in its ITIL catalog. PeopleCert’s ITIL FAQ says the current plan is to sunset all ITIL 4 modules on December 31, 2027, with exam voucher validity dates to be announced. Plan your exam date with that in mind.
PeopleCert hasn’t named a one-to-one replacement. The Version 5 Managing Professional designation is built from ITIL Foundation, ITIL Product, ITIL Service, ITIL Experience and ITIL Transformation (all Version 5). By topic, DSV’s customer journey and stakeholder material is closest to ITIL Experience (Version 5), which covers stakeholder perspectives and service journeys, while service level agreements sit in ITIL Service (Version 5). Existing ITIL 4 Managing Professionals can upgrade through the ITIL Managing Professional Transition (Version 5) module.
If DSV is your last missing ITIL 4 Managing Professional module, take it. PeopleCert’s own FAQ tells anyone one module short to finish the ITIL 4 designation and then upgrade through the Managing Professional Transition (Version 5) module, which needs as little as five days of training compared with 8 to 12 days on the regular route. If you hold only ITIL 4 Foundation and don’t plan to earn the designation, a Version 5 module such as ITIL Experience gives you a credential with no announced end date, and DSV can’t offer that. Our breakdown of what changed in Version 5 goes deeper.
The exam has 40 multiple-choice questions to answer in 90 minutes. It’s closed book, and you need 70 percent to pass, which is 28 correct answers out of 40. PeopleCert offers it in nine languages, including English, Chinese, French, German and Spanish.
PeopleCert requires ITIL 4 Foundation, any ITIL v3 certification, or the ITIL 4 Managing Professional certificate, plus training through an Accredited Training Organization or ITIL Official eLearning. Exam results aren’t released without proof that you completed the training. PeopleCert’s DSV page doesn’t list ITIL Foundation (Version 5) among the accepted prerequisites, so confirm with PeopleCert if that’s the only Foundation you hold.
ITIL 4 Managing Professional takes ITIL 4 Foundation plus four modules: ITIL 4 Specialist: Create, Deliver and Support, ITIL 4 Specialist: Drive Stakeholder Value, ITIL 4 Specialist: High-velocity IT, and ITIL 4 Strategist: Direct, Plan and Improve. Each module needs only Foundation as its ITIL prerequisite, so the order is up to you. DSV is the module about the people on the receiving end of a service.
As of October 2026, PeopleCert lists the DSV exam bundle (exam voucher, official eBook and Learning Resource Kit) at US$865, but sells it for re-sits only, because a first attempt needs accredited training or ITIL Official eLearning. Its self-paced eLearning bundle is US$1,338, and eLearning+ adds a free exam re-take and an official mock exam for US$1,647. Training Camp’s boot camp includes the exam voucher.
PeopleCert schedules and proctors the exam itself through PeopleCert Online Proctoring, so you can sit it from home or the office with a computer, webcam and internet connection. You pick a time slot when you book, and PeopleCert lets you reschedule free of charge up to 48 hours before the start time.
PeopleCert makes no DoD 8140 claim for DSV, and ITIL is a service management framework rather than a cybersecurity credential. Don’t count on it to meet a cyber-coded position requirement on its own, and check the current matrix for your work role before you rely on any credential. See the full DoD 8140 work role paths.
The certification carries a three-year renewal date. You renew by logging 60 CPD points through a PeopleCert Plus membership (20 a year for three years) or by passing another certification from the ITIL product suite before your renewal date. PeopleCert’s FAQ confirms that passing any ITIL (Version 5) certification also renews your ITIL 4 certificates.
DSV fits roles that sit between delivery teams and the business, such as business relationship manager, service level manager, supplier manager, business analyst, IT service manager and customer success lead. PeopleCert also names DevOps engineer, enterprise architect and IT service desk analyst among the roles DSV is popular with.
Take2 is PeopleCert’s official re-sit option, and it gives you a second attempt at the exam. Training Camp’s boot camp includes a PeopleCert Take2 re-sit, so a failed first attempt doesn’t mean buying a new voucher. You still have to pass the full exam on that second sitting.
Tell us which ITIL 4 modules you already hold and when you want to finish. We’ll help you work out whether DSV, the rest of Managing Professional or a Version 5 module makes sense, for you or for a whole service team.
